Billy Porter is getting comfortable behind the director’s chair and has been tapped to shoot the feature adaptation of Camp for HBO Max and Warner Bros. The film will be based on the young adult novel by Lev Rosen which was previously Barnes & Noble’s YA pick of the month for Pride Month.

Porter will also play the role of Mark, the camp’s theater director, in the film.

“Billy Porter, who I’ve been fortunate to know for more than 20 years, is the perfect director for this story, which is both hilariously funny, and also quite moving. I wish a movie like this was around when I was growing up. I’m thrilled we get to make it now,” the film’s producer Dan Jinks told Deadline.

The “Pose” star previously shot the upcoming coming-of-age queer film What If that will star Renée Elise Goldsberry, Abubakr Ali, Simone Joy Jones and Kelly Lamor Wilson. Porter’s schedule is also booked as his voice will be featured in the upcoming remake of Little Shop of Horrors and the reboot of the cartoon series “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.”
